UltraSound Detector is an application that allows users to detect ultrasound (ultrasonic) acoustic signals above a user-defined frequency (by default, above 18 KHz).

This detector can be useful in various cases:

  • To test the functionality of Ultrasonic electronic pest and insect repellent devices, as well as any ultrasound emission devices, to ensure they operate within the appropriate frequency range.
  • To identify leak detections in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. While larger leaks produce a hissing sound that is audible to humans, smaller leaks emit sound at frequencies too high for our ears to detect. An ultrasonic leak detector can capture these high-frequency sounds. This device can detect leaks from several feet away, so physical access to the leak is not always necessary.
  • To detect the presence of Ultrasonic Cross-Device Tracking technology in public places. This technology utilizes high-frequency tones that are inaudible to humans and are embedded in advertisements, web pages, and physical locations such as retail stores. These "ultrasonic beacons" emit audio sequences through speakers, which can be detected by device microphones accessed by applications on smartphones or tablets. This detection allows users to track the ads they have seen, the websites they have visited, and even their physical location.
  • To identify Voice to Skull (V2K) devices, which are weapons used to transmit voices at low or high frequencies. These voices can issue commands or engage in harassment that appears to originate from the targeted individual's own voice. Voice to skull technology is sometimes referred to as "synthetic telepathy."
  • To detect ultrasonic weapons that cause physical pain without being perceptible to humans.
  • To assess the quality of high-frequency tremble sounds produced by loudspeakers.

The results of the detection can be displayed on the screen in foreground mode and presented as notifications or through sound/vibration in the background mode, even when the Android device's screen is off. The upper working frequency depends on the audio specification of the current Android device and can reach up to 150 KHz when using an external ultrasound microphone or sensor. However, the internal microphone can also be used to detect ultrasound signals, although sensitivity and upper frequency will be compromised depending on the quality of the internal microphone.

The application also features an oversampling capability, allowing users to observe ultrasound signals (e.g., 25 KHz) even if their device only digitizes audio at 22 KHz.

Features:

  • No advertising: The application is completely ad-free.
  • Signal level indication: Users are provided with an indication of signal strength.
  • Vibration indication of the alarm event: Alarm events trigger a vibration notification.
  • Automated event log: Events are recorded automatically, including signal spectrum and location information.
  • Conversion of ultrasonic signals into audible sounds: Ultrasonic signals can be converted into audible sounds for monitoring purposes.
  • Background mode with notifications: Once enabled, the application runs silently in the background and does not require user interaction until an alarm event occurs. It continues to run even after device reboots.
  • Adjustable battery consumption in background mode: The application aims to conserve device battery by providing options to adjust data update rates. Lower update rates lead to reduced battery usage.
  • Comprehensive spectrum analysis: The application offers various ways to display results, including spectrum, waterfall, and oscilloscope views.
  • Adjustable frequency range and resolution: Users can customize the frequency range between 2.5 and 50 Hz and select the desired frequency resolution.
